C5 Corvette Borla Exhaust Systems
Borla Exhaust Systems for C5 Corvette
Give your 1997–2004 C5 Corvette the Borla sound that suits the way you drive. Touring, S-Type Classic, S-Type II and ATAK rear exhaust systems offer different sound characters and tip layouts, while separate straight-pipe and X-pipe options let you choose how much of the exhaust to replace.
Start with the sound you want from your LS1 or LS6, then compare the rear appearance and included components. A C5 used for long highway trips calls for a different balance than a car where maximum exhaust presence is the priority. Match the individual system to your model year and configuration before ordering, including the 2001–2004 Z06.
Choose Your C5 Borla Sound
- Touring: The more restrained choice for owners who want to change the exhaust note without choosing the most aggressive option.
- S-Type Classic: Borla’s original S-Type design, available with several rear-tip layouts. It is a different muffler design from S-Type II and is excluded from Borla’s general No Drone guarantee.
- S-Type II: Uses a newer anti-resonance muffler design. Consider it when cabin resonance matters alongside a stronger exhaust note.
- ATAK: The more aggressive muffled choice in this C5 selection.
Rear Exhaust, Straight Pipes or a Separate X-Pipe
The rear exhaust assemblies replace the mufflers and outlets while connecting to the existing exhaust farther forward. They do not include an X-pipe. The 60087 merge X-pipe is a separate purchase for replacing the factory mid-pipe, and installation requires cutting the factory H-pipe.
Borla 12649 is a muffler-delete rear section, not another ATAK system. Choose it specifically for a rear section without mufflers rather than expecting the sound control of Touring, S-Type or ATAK.
Choose the Rear-Tip Layout
The C5 systems here use polished stainless tips. S-Type Classic 140017 has one large round Phantom-style outlet per side, while 140038 uses 4-inch round tips. S-Type Classic 140039, Touring 140426, S-Type II 140427 and ATAK 140428 use oval tips. The oval appearance alone does not identify the muffler design, so choose the sound family before the tip layout.
Before Ordering for a Modified C5
If your Corvette already has headers, an aftermarket mid-pipe or altered exhaust connections, compare those connections with the chosen kit. The correct year and trim are the starting point; existing exhaust changes also matter to installation.
